I wouldn’t call myself “sporty”, but over the last two to three years I’ve been slowly working towards building up my overall fitness. It started quite gently with Pilates to strengthen and condition my shoulder and back in response to an injury that I’ve had for the last decade or so that progressively got worse over time. I highly recommend Pilates, particularly if you work a desk job and suffer from RSI.
Lately, the focus of my training has been on upping my cardio, which frankly I’m hatin’ on at the moment. Mostly because I keep getting these terrible fucking stitches when I run. Building my endurance is incredibly difficult when I’m constantly getting this stabbing feeling in my abdomen. I’ve tried almost everything from changing up my water consumption and eating patterns, to running with a small rock in my hand (diversion tactic) to no avail.
Any suggestions on what I could do to overcome this obstacle would be very much appreciated. Otherwise, I will continue my attempts to “run”, that is hobbling down the road grabbing my side whilst wincing in pain. Don’t mind me.
