Gina Rinehart, mining magnate and Australia’s richest individual worth an estimated $A10 billion, is making a play for Fairfax, eh? This follows on from her purchase of a seat on the Channel Ten board, and installing right wing mouthpiece Andrew Bolt in it’s stables. I’m sure her latest acquisition will add to the already “diverse” ownership of media in this country, what with Murdoch effectively harnessing 70% of readership with it’s fleet of 150 national, capital-city and suburban news brands.
Fearless, independent and accurate journalism is the very cornerstone of democracy. To see it being suffocated by militant political agenda, in this case big mining interests, is so very depressing.
